Bajo Grande

We moved down from the cabins to a couple of larger cabins set in the area of Bajo Grande, which is at a lower altitude and has nearby agricultural field built on steep slopes. This small area (Cerro Punta) grows ~80% of Panama’s vegetable crops. Tonight we’ll be talking with Abel, our guide of many years (and a former farmer) and Ramira, who spent all her life here. They’ll hear about their experiences in all things Panama, but with some focus on the agricultural practices and history of the area. We’re trying to give the students a little break while giving them a sense of the history of this area and well as some principles of sustainable and equitable agricultural systems. The students will present their individual initiatives tomorrow pm.

One surprise at our new site, is that, as of now, we have no Wifi. I guess the internet company that serves the area is working nearby where we’re staying. We’re trying to work some things out but …

I went to the main hotel to write this, as likely there will be no student post, or photos, today.
